The photo below was doctored up by a pro skater in his spare time with the caption, “Damn Sheckler, stop bogarting the bat!” Which actually isn’t a bad lesson to learn early on. Sharing is caring, right? Plus, the dude seems to have some a knack for paper craftsmanship. And he’s wearing socks indoors, which is extremely considerate. So actually, I take the headline back. A+ work!

A New Hampshire kid, Logan Winkler, gets permission from the public school system to learn on the road while visiting local skate parks. Way to game the system, son (and pops).

The real education? Dad teaching him how to couch surf for months at a time. That skill could prove to be priceless for one so devoted to skating. (Oh, simmer down. Like Cuba Gooding’s brother Tee Pee in “Jerry Maguire”, I’m just keepin’ it ruhl.)

Tony Hawk is 41. That’s more than old enough to have a 17-year-old son. Which Tony has. His name is Riley Hawk, and he’s an extremely decent skater in his own right. You can see Riley in the clip below, shot during a recent Birdhouse tour of the Northeast. Riley’s in the brown beanie, while his pops is the only nerd at the park wearing a helmet (fame and riches don’t come without a price, people).

I don’t say this too often, if ever, but Boil the Ocean is one blog I simply just can’t get enough of these days. (Some serious self-loathing going on over here, no?) Either way, how you work this in to a skate video review, I have no idea. But they do, and it works. Amazing stuff over there. Witnesh:

Those who are products of the 1980s will recall “Transformers the Movie” as an emotional tour de force that involved entire planets being consumed by the pesky Unicron, with tears shed at Optimus Prime’s death but somehow no bullshit teenage romance, and a Weird Al song also. The film taught many truths about this human life (imparted by giant warlike robots no less) but the one that really hit me was when Soundwave, Starscream and the Constructicons had gathered after some time apart and were trying to chop it up over a few energon cubes like it was the old days … but their stilted conversation and uncomfortable silences said it all: times had changed and the Decepticons, like all of us, were holding too tightly to something that had long since transformed. Or maybe it was the world that had transformed around them? Or maybe Unicron ate everything. My memory is not what it used to be but I believe the movie won a thousand Oscars.

Something about this Justin Eldridge trick shot is eminently watchable. Maybe it’s because the quarter, uh, goes in.

You’d think the Sacto fuzz could cut the legend some slack. I mean, he almost wound up paralyzed during the filming of “Tent City”, and now only has his fixed-gear to fall back on. Alas, sympathy is hard to come by in NorCal, whether you’re on four wheels or two.

John Cardiel dashed down Ninth Street on his fixed-gear bike, tearing southward in the right-hand lane, when he heard yelling, which grew louder and closer. He looked over his shoulder and saw two Sacramento police officers on bikes trailing him, hollering, “Stop!” . . . Cardiel explains that he “skidded to an immediate stop.” Then, he describes that the cops applied their hand brakes and slid past him. “One guy almost fell over. I had more control than they did,” Cardiel remembers.

Legends never slide. (Or something like that.)
